Tyrkland // Turkey

Ein ferðaskrifstofa hér í bæ (samkeppnisaðili!!!) er að selja ferðir til Tyrklands í sumar. Nánar tiltekið Anatolia-svæðið. Í bæklingnum eru myndir af sælu fólki á baðfötunum á ströndinni, af hvítu, stóru hóteli með sundlaug í garðinum og myndir af hótelgarðinum, sem NB. gætu allt eins verið teknar á Benidorm, Ibiza eða Rimini. Svo til hliðar, í smá texta, er minnst á að það séu einhverjar merkar minjar nálægt frá tímum Grikkja og Rómverja og a það verði 2ja daga ferð til Capadoccia. Eftir að hafa farið til Tyrklands og séð aðeins brotabrot af þeirri menningu og minjum sem þar eru, finnst mér hreint út sagt móðgun að selja Tyrkland eins og hvern annan baðstrandarstað. Og ef fólk er að kaupa "strandaferðir" til Tyrklands, þá er það að missa af SVOOO miklu! Ég er allavegana alveg yfir mig hneyksluð á þessu öllu saman. Maður verður jú að vera hneykslaður á einhverju, ekki satt?? Ég býst við að ég sé orðin ferða-snobbari.

A travel agent in town (a competitor!!) is selling trips to Turkey this summer. To be precice, the Anatolia-area. In their brochure and adverts they have photos of happy people in their bathing suits on the beach, of a large white hotel with a pool in the back and of the hotel garden, that might NB. just as well be taken in Benidorm, Ibiza or Rimini. Then there's a little text to the side saying that in the nearby area there are some ruins from the Greek and Roman period and that there will be a 2-day trip to Capadoccia. After having gone to Turkey and seen only a tiny fraction of the culture and ancient remains the country has, I'm frankly insulted by the fact that Turkey is sold like some cheap destination-floosie. If people are buying "beachtrips" to Turkey, it's their loss!! I am just totally shocked by this all. One cannot help being shocked, can one? I guess I have become a travel-snob.
