HAH!!

Small world! Just received a phonecall from a client in distress. He was Davíð Waage, a friend since my exchange trip to Venezuela, oh so many years ago :) FANTASTIC!! This is the good thing about this job, I get to speak with lots of people who I might never know anything about! Already I've been able to assist Adda babe and Ingunn babe, both friends from childhood. I hadn't heard from them for a while, so it was cool to chat for a little bit and catch up. How's that for an upbeat attitude, Abu?? ;)

A couple of new, brilliant sites!!!

I am going to add these to my favourite links, they are awesome!!!

This one is so cool, The Common Dog

and then there is this site, which not only supporst a VERY good cause but also has a fantastic Fair Trade online store, with international deliveries!!! You can get stuff from as far away as Vietnam and Bolivia, all from Fair Trade workers. With all the stuff going in Sudan at the moment, I think a click is the least we can do.

PASS IT ON!
Visit The Hunger Site to give food to the hungry with just a click -- every day and at no cost to you.
HOW IT WORKS
When you click the "Give Free Food" button (once a day per person) at The Hunger Site, this simple action gives over a cup of fortified food to a hungry person.
It costs you nothing. Funding is paid by site sponsors and food is distributed by two leading nonprofit hunger relief organizations: Mercy Corps and America's Second Harvest.
The number of people who click each day determines the amount of food that goes to the hungry, so please forward this message along.
WHY CLICK?
There is enough food in the world for every man, woman and child. Yet an estimated one billion of the world's people live in poverty and face chronic hunger. 24,000 die daily. 75% of them are children under age five.
A "click to give" costs nothing but a few seconds of your time, and gives help and hope to a person in desperate need.

Eyrún Haraldsóttir

We went to see little miss Eyrún and she is GORGEOUS!!! Me wants Me wants Me wants!!! My ovaries were playing 'Jingle Bells' the whole time. Magnea looked great and was amazingly fit and active. She's a brave woman :)

Verslunarmannahelgin is here and people are losing their cards like never before. Oh joy. And I have a bloody migrene. Have had it for the last 30 hours or so. So, I'm all drowsy and drugged-up at work. Perhaps not the best thing in the world but hey, wotcha gonna do?!

Oh, 5 days to our departure! :D Yeah!

Why can't I get just one kiss....?

Ze moosie-problem is solved!!! WOOHOO!  Ze mother of ze girl who has "my piggies" is going to take them in! :D  FANTASTIQUE!!!  I'm so happy!  I went to see them last night and OMG!! They are still gorgeous as ever, happy and squeaky :D  So, things have worked out for the best.  I am sure there is a pig or two that needs a new home in California.

CONGRATULATIONS MAGNEA & HARALDUR!!!

Hey, great news!!!!  Magnea and Haraldur had a little, baby girl earlier tonight!   I am soooooo happy for them!!!  I still don't know how it all went but I am jumping to the conclusion that it all went fine.  OOOHMYGOD! They must be so excited about the new arrival... Hell, I'm so excited to see her! :D  WooHoooo!!!

Funny how fate makes a late entry...

Well, Little Miss Magnolia is still with the "tenant", she's been once again sent home from the hospital but is due to deliver tomorrow.  She'd better!  We're all bursting at the seams from excitement!!!

I got a call from the girl who originally "adopted" my two piggies.  She says she's looking for a home for them! So, I am trying to find some way to take them with me to CA.  That would be just awesome!  I nearly cried when she told me.... I miss my girls!!!  I want them back!  So,  it's time to beg the family for assistance, once more.   My poor family....

Photos from Ze Master

I have put in a link to Abu's photos from Africa.  He was there for 3 months, travelling to several different countries.  They are quite a few, but well worth the time spent looking!

Blame it on the rain, yeah yeah!

Bikin' along... on me way to work... ze rain nearly got me... but I escaped it, WUAHAHAHAAAAA....

Congrats to Beggó and her family on the new arrival :)  Big kiss and hug!  How 'bout some photos, fair maiden??!!

Weekend awesome.  Abdul, the parents and I got lost in Fjallbak Nature Reserve :)  But the scenery was unbelievable!  With every twist and turn in the road, something new caught our eye, projecting a series of 'ooooh's and 'aaaaaah's from everyone.  The two black 'dowgs' were with us, very well behaved.  The weather couldn't have been better, sunshine and 21°C!  Obviously would have been nice to spend it outside the car but I think it was worth it.

Abdul was well impressed with the Dad's driving skills and knowledge of obscure trails in the Icelandic highlands.  The rest of us knew we were lost.  So, finally when we saw a sign, the three icelanders cheered and said "Finally we'll know where we are and where to go!!".  Then, Abu said in the most surprised voice: "We were lost???!!"  HEE HEE HEE HEE!!! :D

One thing has to be said.  After driving through the  nature reserve, it's absolutely shocking and saddening to see the lack of respect for nature (not to mention the law).  Motorbike- and cartracks were everywhere!  People had obviously been VERY busy driving off the trails and destroying the little vegetative cover in their paths.  These wounds in nature NEVER heal.  We were looking at tracks several decades old.  Also VERY fresh ones, most likely from the previous day.   People are stupid.  It's obviously not enough to put up an information board stating the freakin' law and pointing out the obvious.  YOU ARE IN A NATURE RESERVE!

Ok, had to get that off my chest.

We went fishing yesterday, in Brúará.  Old family fishing area.  We were fishing for
Arctic Charr, but as you may know, the Char is a particularly picky fish and highly unpredictable.  So, needless to say, we didn't catch a thing.  But it was enjoyable, nontheless.

I guess this was the last chance this summer for Abu and I to go travelling in Iceland.  Hopefully we will have other opportunities, some other summer.  :)

HAHAH!

Ze rain tried to soak me on my way to work this morning... but to no avail!  I am ze master of bicycles!! HAHAH!  Fear me, if you dare!!!  If anyone doesn't recognise that quote, then you are a dork.  Shrek2 is a MUST-SEE!!!  Abdul maintains it's a chick-flick but what does he know?!  He thinks everything is a chick-flick, even freakin LOR and Rocky (because there is the most miniscule amount of affection displayed!!)

The board-game club met last night @ Magnolia's house.  She's still got a very big and beautiful bump.   It is, however, all looking very promising! :)  Oh yeah!  We are all pissing ourselves for the miracle to happen!  Last night she was showing us some baby clothes which she's going to take with to the hospital.  OMG!  I got all gooey and googly and teary-eyed!  It's all SOOOOOO CUTE!!! Melting melting melting.... we heard the muffled sound of bells... and it wasn't from the neighbourhood church!  Let's hope this is the last time (at least for a while) what we see our beautiful Magnolia with a bump :)   She's got that beautiful, healthy pregnancy glow, I never thought it existed!

13 days to our departure.... ohlálá!

Time never moves for Mr. T

I am now ready for August 5th.  Also for September 17th.  Also for December 2nd (when I go visit dad and the sister and brother!).  It's quite disturbing when one wishes time would move faster.   That means my life would be shorter.  And I intend to life my life to the full until my expiry date.  So why does my brain wish my time away?

I wonder, wonder woodoodiwoodidoo, OOH! Who wrote the Book of Love...!!!

2 more hours to go at work.  Darn oh darn!

DISGRACE!!!

This is the current situation at the puppy-mill just outside Reykjavik.  I have been there more times I like to think of, and it truly is a horrid place.  I sincerely hope that you all take the time to read throught the page (I am sorry, but it is only in Icelandic, to my knowledge) and perhaps give your support for the task.  The people behind the page are genuine dog-lovers.  I have spoken to them on a couple of occations and they are doing something most people would be too afraid to do, or just wouldn't be bothered.

Þjóðarskömm!!

I hate oversleeping...

Muh!  Dunno why, but my brain was in off-mode until 8:45, when Abdul finally asked me "Don't you have to go work?"  It really gets you off to a shaken start...

14 days until Ze Trip!!!!

þriðjudagur, júlí 20, 2004

16 days to Ze Trip!!!

We had  a great day yesterday, drove all the way from the family cottage to Jökulsárlón in Breiðamerkursandur.  Absolutely GORGEOUS place!!  By sheer coincidence we met the Cute Family, Pála, Jökull and Laufey.  We sat in the beautiful sunshine, watched the Arctic Terns  catch fish, we ate strawberries and chatted.  It was such a nice time!

I'll write up the travel story later, it's quite busy at work (just writing these few words has taken me 2 hours!).

Another day...

Another beautiful day, another day at work.  This sucks.

Some people...

...should not be allowed to be provided with the service the company I work for offers... they don't know their ass from their nose... how are they expected to count?!  AAAAARGHH!!!

The weather is still fab.  I'm still stuck inside.

19 days until our trip!  Woohoo!

THE WEATHER IS FANTASTIC!!!!!

I'm freakin' working inside today and it's the best day of summer, yet!!!! AAAAAAARGH!!!!

Well, at least I can play with these fantastic new gadgets on blogger :)  Lots of different letters and colours, yey!

Check out this piece of news from Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe's return to stoneage

This is such bullshit! Down with Mugabe and all his henchmen!
Oh yes, the evil white farmers surely took all the ambulances with them, along with all the hospitals! If there is a god, like some people maintain, why would he/she/it be so evil and create a tyrant like Mugabe? Some of those so-called believers would say "the god is testing your strenght." Well, it's kinda obvious, but if he is omnipotent, all-knowing and all-seeing, why can't he see how strong you are?!

These are just my rantings about meaningless religion... what's the point?! It doesn't make any sense what so ever. If you have any other opinions or explanations, please share!

Halb-zeit until I get off work! Woohoo! And then off to show my family the slides photos I took in S-Africa in March! :D Yey!!

And last but not least, Little Miss Mouse, in her favourite place. She would always crawl up on my shoulder and snuggle against my neck. She was not a lap-piggie, like Skittles and Pearl were.  Posted by Hello

Laugar-Spa!!!

Aaaaah, the joys of self-indulgence. I had the pleasure of experiencing the epitomy of it yesterday. Access to the most luxurious spa in the country. It is a collection of pampering and masochism (I will explain). I tried every single sauna (yes, there are multiple ones!) and all the showers, except the most evil ones, I left them well alone!

Lets see... I started out by going to the salt-water whirlpool and get a nice massage from the air-jet nozzles. I then moved over to a dry sauna with a "natural" light and citrus-aromatherapy. From there I went to a wetter sauna with ergodynamic seats and peppermint-essential oils. Then I wandered between the starlight-wet lavender sauna, the tropical rain shower, the dry log cabin sauna, the bird-song sauna and the waterfall. I spent about 20 minutes relaxing in the, yes you guessed it, relaxation room. Near dark, with lazy boy chairs dotted around an open log fire with soft, relaxing music playing. Sounds rediculous, and it is! My ankle loved it, there was no pain. I also loved it, but as I was laying in the dry-log cabin sauna I decided that the time I will buy myself membership to one of these places, I will have to donate the same amount to charity. So, I'll have to wait until I'm pretty rich! It's just so stupid to spend that amount of money on something so completely surplus as multiple saunas and whatnot. As pleasant as it is, I just cannot justify it to myself to spend that amount of money.

As I was standing underneath the tropical shower, I was wondering where the designers came across a tropical shower like that. I've had the great experience of being caught out in tropical showers several times, but they are never this pleasant, and they NEVER smell of coconut and pineapple! Felt like a regular pina colada when I stepped out! Nice! :) In the same shower, there was something called "ice shower". I tried it. AARGH! The water was so cold that if I had drunk it, I would have had brain-freeze! Who the hell thinks of something so masochistic??!! WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT TO ONESELF?!!! Evil evil evil, I tell ya!!!! The two buttons, for the tropical shower and the torture-shower were next to each other. I nearly hit the wrong button once!! Scheize!!

Anyways, it was an interesting experience :)

My dearest little piggies... Pearl (brown and white) and Skittles (white w/black head), RIP. She was the cutest pig, I miss her so.  Posted by Hello

Woohoo!

Just trying out a new gizmo for blogger, I can post pictures with great ease! It's fantastic! So, I shall bombard you all with more photos than ever before!!!! WUAHAHAHAH!

Oh yeah!

Fylkir has 19 points in the football championship!!! BUYAH! Now they just have to keep their kool and freakin' beat those KR-suckers again!!! They deserve to be the champions, as they have fu##ed it up so many times in the past. Mrrrrd!

My dear friend Ragga briefly came to Iceland over the weekend. Took a few days out of her busy schedule as a tour guide in Spain to be at her brother's wedding. I was lucky enough to see the video from the wedding and what a beautiful day it was! So intimate and perfect :) Congratulations to Ívar and Sigrún!!

Poor Ragga caught some bug on the flight over and was ill for most of her time here, so yesterday was spent doing very little, which suited me just fine! That meant more time playing with the cutest boy in town, the 10 week old Þorgeir Atlas Lýðsson :) What an adoreable little boy! Me wants, me wants! My ovaries made a strange "bling bling bling" sound the whole evening... and they still are, actually! I guess that's what you get when you hang around a perfect little baby like him :) Ragga and Lýður, I'd gladly take him off your hands if you need me to! (I have no expectations of that EVER happening... bloody parental love... I guess I'll just have to wait and see if I will have one of my own).

Bon voyage, Rags and hopefully you got to Spain safely, and in good health. El tiempo que tuviste aqui en Islandia fue demasiado corto pero bueno, asi es la vida. Que te vaya bien y hablamos pronto, mi amor.

AAARGH! The freaking weather can't make up its mind! Cloudy, not cloudy. Warm, or cold wind. How can I go sunbathing if it doesn't stay freakin' sunny?! You tell me! Freakin' Icelandic weather...

Well, best get going and finish those S-African photos.

Tah tah.

Saturday, happy Saturday

Oh it was so wonderful to sleep in! Unfortunately my cutie-pie had to go to work at 8 this morning, after spending a night of wrestling with me over the matress and the duvet. I didn't mean to, I swear!

I've been really active since I got up, organising my photos online and labelling them all. So, be warned, all ye out there! I am going to bombard you with photos! WUAHAHAHAHAAA...

Best continue, photos awaiting!

A poem

I was watching telly this morning. An advert came on, reminding us that speeding kills. It was an incredibly moving advert, amazingly well orchestrated. Sent shivers down my spine. It was very morbid, all in gray-scale. While a helicopter panned over the roads of Iceland with images of deceased people on the tarmac, an eerie voice sang a poem by Vatnsenda-Rósa, a very talented Icelandic lady.

I know this is terribly emotional and heavy on a Friday morning but I just was so moved! I hope you will spend a few minutes and read it... I will post it in icelandic and provide a content-translation in english, although I am aware that a lot is lost in translation. (Dum-dum-dum!)

Augað mitt og augað þitt, - - - Your eyes and my eyes,
og þá fögru steina. - - - those beautiful stones.
Mitt er þitt, og þitt er mitt, - - - Mine is yours, and yours is mine,
þú veist hvað ég meina. - - - you know what I mean.

Trega ég þig manna mest - - - I am most sad for you of all
mædd af táraflóði. - - - saddened by a flood of tears.
Ó, að við hefðum aldrei sést, - - - oh, if only we never had met,
elsku vinurinn góði. - - - my dearest friend.

Langt er síðan sá ég hann, - - - long has it been since I saw him,
sannlega fríður var hann. - - - surely he was fair.
Allt sem prýða mátti einn mann - - - all the qualities in one man
mest af lýðum bar hann. - - - he stood above the rest.

Engan leit ég eins og þann - - - None I looked upon like him
álma hreyti bjarta. - - - he shone brighter than gold.
Einn guð veit ég elskaði hann - - - I know he was loved by one god
af öllum reit míns hjarta. - - - as much as my own heart.

Þó að kali heitur hver, - - - Even if the hot spring freezes over,
hylji dali jökull ber, - - - a glacier covers the valleys,
steinar tali og allt hvað er, - - - the rocks acquire language and all imaginable things,
aldrei skal ég gleyma þér. - - - I shall never forget you.

Augað snart er tárum tært, - - - The eyes are filled with tears,
tryggð í partast mola, - - - loyalty is shattered,
mitt er hjartað sárum sært, - - - my heart is wounded,
svik er hart að þola. - - - treachery is hard to bear.

Bestan veit ég blóma þinn, - - - I know, best of all, your beauty,
blíðu innst í reitum. - - - your innermost tenderness.
Far vel, Eyjafjörður minn, - - - Fare well my Eyjafjord, (a beautiful fjord in the north of Iceland)
fegri öllum sveitum. - - - more beautiful than any.

Ze brain...

My dear friends in old Blighty, I hope you were all safely tucked away when the storm hit the land and that no major damage was done. As for you fellow garden nerds, I hope your gardens weren't too damaged.

Well, last night was slightly better, I was able to get a bit more rest.

Hey, to all you geniuses out there: why is it that now I am watching my diet and exercising more than I have recently been doing, I am fatter than I was a month ago?! And no, I am not imagining things, I can feel it in my clothes and it's quite visual. So, if anyone has an explanation, please step forward and hold your peace no more. My theory is that it's a calorie-conspiracy, any calorie I eat multiplies before I swallow it and therefore I am eating double or triple the amount that I think I am.

And now for something completely different... why do salmon fishermen want to catch salmon using a hook and worm??! It is sooooo cheating! Salmon fishing should be all about fly-fishing. And catch-and-release. You can buy perfectly fine farmed salmon from the shops. And don't even get me started on the stupid farmers that put down nets for the salmon!!!! ARGH! STUPID STUPID STUPID! If there is no salmon any more, you can't use them as a resource!

Ok, I'm done... for 'miaow'.

I can't wait to get to my bed! Nightshift nearly over, only 10 minutes to go!! And then I shall sleep like a log. Log, I tell ya! WUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA....

Apparently the weather is going to be nice today. Lets hope I have enough energy to wake up early enough in the afternoon to enjoy it.

Good night/day.

The butterfly effect...

they never stop! :)

My last nightshift for a while. Good. I have had enough. 3 nights of 12-hour shifts suck. I hope I hope tonight will be slow. I don't want to deal with people at the mo.

A month until we go on our trip, I can't wait!!! :D I am so excited about going there, and spending 3 weeks with my little sausage :) It's going to be so great! I have bought a nice bikini, a lovely little summerdress... all geared up for the heat! Yey!

Lets see what crap is on telly.

How time flies...

...this time a year ago I was in the west of Iceland. A handsome man came to visit me from Sweden. We spent a few days together. I haven't gotten rid of him since!! :D But how lucky am I to have met him! All the way across the States, over the Atlantic, to Sweden, and then to Iceland. And he's still here! :)

It's 3 am. and still only 7 phonecalls! I was expecting a lot more. I have been chatting with Eimear all evening, my favourite Irish bird. It was nice to catch up.

Ghod, there's nothing interesting on telly!!! Just some stupid italian film about a beautiful woman in Sicily who is hated by everyone because of her beauty. And some 13-year old is infatuated by her, watching her every move. Creepy.

Mystery Men

The world is full of them...

I have had 2 days off work, preparing myself for the wonderful 3 nightshifts coming up this weekend. The second busiest camping weekend of the year. In addition to that, the Metallica concert is on Sunday evening, there's a HUGE equine show (6 thousand people have already showed up!) AND it's the first weekend that school-kids get paid for their summer job, so they'll be busy partying and wasting their paycheck on booze and whatnot! So, while other people are spending their money, I'm earning money.
